Free
Jin Yongs Centennial Memorial Flyer 1

2024 marks the centenary of the birth of Jin Yong 金庸 (Dr Louis Cha), a literary giant in Chinese literature. He was a Fellow Commoner at St. John’s college and earned a doctorate in Asian Studies in 2010 at the age of 86 at the University of Cambridge. He was also an honorary fellow of St Anthony’s College and a senior researcher at the Institute for Chinese Studies at the University of Oxford.

“Wherever there are Chinese people, Jin Yong’s world of ‘wuxia’ can be found.” Jin Yong works have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, have been translated into 14 different languages and inspired over 100 movies & dramas. With profound humanistic values, they had a far-reaching impact on the global literary world. We cordially invite the Oxbridge members to visit “The World of Wuxia” (盛匯江湖) where renowned sculptor Ren Zhe created statues of Jin Yong characters including Yang Guo (楊過) and Guo Jing (郭靖). Memorable scenes with AR such as Taohua Island (桃花島) can also be found. The tour will be guided by Oxford alumna Jennifer Lee to tell stories of Jin Yong.
