Guided Exhibition Tour and Lunch “A History of China in Silk” by Chris Hall

We are privileged to tour The Chris Hall Collection led by the collector himself, Cambridge alumnus Chris Hall, offering members a profound look at Chinese silk culture and its far-reaching impact. The collection is internationally recognised as one of the largest, finest and most comprehensive collections of antique Chinese costumes and textiles.
Featuring about 250 masterworks chosen from nearly 3,000 pieces, the exhibition traces Chinese textile art from the ancient era through to the 20th century. Grounded in the evolution of dyeing, weaving and design, it reflects social, cultural and technological changes throughout the period. Members can witness the rich narratives of cross-cultural exchanges fostered through silk trade and fashion innovations.
The collection features a wide range of Chinese textiles, with a special focus on Ming and Qing dynasty rank badges and rare religious fabrics, renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and historical significance. This includes a personal selection of items from the Warring States period (475 – 221BC), to the Qing dynasty (AD 1636 – 1911) to contemporary work.
