The Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong is pleased to invite applications from Hong Kong students attending Oxford or Cambridge Universities for scholarship grants of up to HK$20,000 per candidate in support of project work and/or travel to be completed in the Year 2023. Awards are limited to a maximum of three successful applicants from each University. Each successful applicant will receive up to HK$20,000 as a scholarship grant from the Society. The names and particulars of successful applicants will be used in the publicity of the Society’s scholarship scheme.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must satisfy the following criteria at the time of application:

  1. Is a Hong Kong student attending a full-time resident undergraduate or postgraduate degree course at either Oxford University or Cambridge University.
  2. Is a holder of an HKID card.
  3. Being a student member of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong (“the Society”) (submission of the scholarship application form and the membership application form together is acceptable).

A brief proposal should be submitted to the Society describing the specific project work, travel, etc. for which the grant is applied. The scholarships are intended to help Hong Kong students at Oxford or Cambridge to undertake meaningful, mind-broadening travel during the long vacation. There is no strict stipulation as to the type of travel but projects that have been favorably considered in the past include research fieldwork, trips to places linked to the course of study, attendance at international conferences, and initiatives to help underprivileged groups. Pure holiday travel is not ruled out but will normally be considered only in cases where financial circumstances would otherwise prevent this. The scholarships are NOT intended for travel between Hong Kong and the UK nor for summer stays in Oxford or Cambridge. All applications should include an itemized budget. Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit a signed endorsement letter from their College tutor or project supervisor. Successful candidates will be required to submit a brief report to the Society after completion of their project, travel, etc.

The award of scholarship grants was postponed for a year due to difficulty in making international travels during the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope to resume our scholarship grants in 2023.
