SUMMARY:Tour the UNESCO-Award-Winning Blue House
DESCRIPTION:Join Cambridge alumnus\, architect and artist Nick Tsao for an immersive guided tour of Wan Chai’s historic Blue House Cluster. The Blue House is a Grade I historic building built in 1992\, awarded the UNESCO Award of Excellence\, which is the highest honour given to conservation projects in Asia Pacific. It stands as a living testament to Hong Kong’s success in integrating tangible and intangible heritage. Explore its preserved interiors\, authentic architectural details\, and co-living histories while visiting Tsao’s own residence and studio\, where he creates traditional papercuttings for Lunar New Year. The experience offers rare access to the building’s architectural features and community preservation stories. \nNick is an architect with over a decade of experience under international design firms such as Foster + Partners and Herzog & de Meuron. His fascination with historic buildings had led him to design the Hong Kong Heritage map\, which is available at several bookstores. \nYou will learn about the rich history of the building\, its intricate architectural features\, and hear stories of its close-knit community. Nick will welcome you into his home studio to feel what it is like to live in a century-old brick and timber building. What modern conveniences does he have to give up? The most important question is of course: how much does he pay for rent? \nDate and Time:\n15:00 – 16:30 Sunday 29th March 2026 \nMeeting Point:\nCourtyard\, Stone Nullah Lane\, Wan Chai \nCost:\n$300 (member) / $350 (non-member) \nRSVP:\nRegister and pay at the Oxbridge Society Event Page \nFor enquiries:\nJo An Ma (joanma3@yahoo.com) and\nOxbridge Administrator (society@oxbridge.org.hk)
