DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite Oxbridge members and guests to a fireside chat and cocktail with The Honourable Mrs. Regina IP LAU Suk-yee GBM\, GBS\, JP. The fireside chat will be moderated by the President of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong\, Dr. Blanc Wan\, and is hosted by a member of the HK Club\, Mr. Arun Nigum. The fireside chat will focus on her career in the Administrative Service and Legislative Council\, as well as the opportunities and risks she sees for Hong Kong. There will be an interactive Q&A at the end. Chatham House rules will be applied. \nMrs Ip is currently a Legislative Council Member\, Chairperson of the New People’s Party\, the Savantas Policy Institute and the Maritime Silk Road Society as well as Court Member of the University of Hong Kong. Mrs Ip joined the Administrative Service of the Hong Kong civil service in September 1975 and worked in a wide range of policy areas\, including home affairs\, security\, trade and industry. She rose through the ranks to Director of Bureau in May 2000. She served as Secretary for Security from August 1998 to July 2003. She has been a Legislative Council Member returned by geographical constituency through direct elections since 2008. In October 2012 and July 2017\, Mrs Ip was appointed Non-Official Member of the Executive Council. Members can write “Fai Chun “(揮春) or lucky red banners for the upcoming Lunar New Year of Snake or other calligraphy pieces under Master Poon’s guidance. SUMMARY:Lantau Hiking Trip 2024
DESCRIPTION:LANTAU HIKING TRIP & TEA WITH THE BUNKERS \nOnce again the Bunkers have very kindly invited us to their home for tea after a walk. This year we shall be tackling a pleasant coastal route to reach their home. The walk will start at 1:00pm from the Pui O Village Peter Stuckey wil be leading the walk and be meeting at 11:30am at the Central Ferry Pier No. 6. He will give us brief talks on the highligts of our trip\, particularly about the feral cattle resident at Pui O\, the tin Hau temple at Pui O beach and the coastal scenery along the way. \nThe walk is around 8 kms on concrete paths and fairly well made tracks\, mostly contoured. It involves some inclines but no steep climbs. However\, it will take about 3 hours of walking and once started there are no easy exit options except to complete the walk. Suitable clothing and shoes are essential. Be sure to bring ample water. \nThe Bunkers have kindly invited us for one of Sally Bunker’s excellent cream teas at their delightful home in Mui Wo after the hike. DESCRIPTION:2024 marks the centenary of the birth of Jin Yong 金庸 (Dr Louis Cha)\, a literary giant in Chinese literature. He was a Fellow Commoner at St. John’s college and earned a doctorate in Asian Studies in 2010 at the age of 86 at the University of Cambridge. He was also an honorary fellow of St Anthony’s College and a senior researcher at the Institute for Chinese Studies at the University of Oxford. \n“Wherever there are Chinese people\, Jin Yong’s world of ‘wuxia’ can be found.” Jin Yong works have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide\, have been translated into 14 different languages and inspired over 100 movies & dramas. With profound humanistic values\, they had a far-reaching impact on the global literary world. We cordially invite the Oxbridge members to visit “The World of Wuxia” (盛匯江湖) where renowned sculptor Ren Zhe created statues of Jin Yong characters including Yang Guo (楊過) and Guo Jing (郭靖). DESCRIPTION:The Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong invites you to Annual Rowing Regatta & Family Lunch \nDate: Saturday\, 20 April 2024\nTime: 10:30am – 3pm\nVenue: Middle Island\, Royal HK Yacht Club\, Deepwater Bay \nCost (inc. lunch set with free flow drinks):\nHK$480 (Member)\nHK$580 (Non-member)\nHK$380 (Children under 11) \nBy kind permission of the Rowing Section of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club\, the Oxbridge Annual Rowing Regatta will be held at Middle Island\, Deepwater Bay from 10:30am on Saturday 20 April 2024. \nThis is a very popular family event and guests and children are most welcome to attend and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this unique location. The rowing races will commence at 11:30am sharp with crews representing Oxford\, Cambridge\, combined alumni and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. \nSome experience of rowing and/or coxing is required but crews will be of mixed ability and fitness. Individual or crew entries are welcome – please register your interest in advance so we can start assembling crews before the day. Participants are encouraged to wear their varsity colours and enter into friendly rivalry. \nExperienced rowers will have the opportunity to race in Hong Kong’s own “Boat Race” or in a Goldie/Isis boat\, but the mood of the day is light-hearted and there will be plenty of opportunity to have a fun row and enjoy the spirit of representing one’s alma mater. \nPrizes will be awarded\, subject to final entries\, on the beautiful lawn of the Clubhouse\, followed by a family buffet. A selection of hot and cold meat/fish/vegetarian dishes\, soup\, desserts\, tea/coffee will be served. End the day by watching the sun set over Deepwater Bay over a glass of wine after a sumptuous buffet. Since 2014\, Sir Rick has been the Rector of Exeter College\, Oxford. A graduate of Brown University\, Sir Rick was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship\, which led him to complete a second undergraduate degree at Merton College\, Oxford. He further pursued his academic journey as a research student at Nuffield College\, a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College\, and a lecturer at Balliol College. His doctoral research focused on Victorian social history. Sir Rick was for twenty-one years an academic at the University of Glasgow\, where he became dean of social sciences\, vice-principal and professor of social history. He also held the latter title at Greenwich and King’s and is now professor emeritus of social history at King’s.  \n\nKnown for his commitment to innovative teaching methods\, Sir Rick has been actively involved in promoting computer-based teaching in history and other disciplines. His research interests have centered on modern British elites\, particularly the middle-class leaders of industrial towns and cities.\nIn recognition of his contributions to the field\, Sir Rick has been elected as the President of the Economic History Society\, an organization dedicated to promoting research and teaching in economic and social history since 1926. He currently serves on the board of the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and is the head of the Museum of London Academic Panel. Previously\, he held board positions at the University of Oxford\, the Royal Academy of Music\, the Museum of London\, Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)\, the US/UK Fulbright Commission\, the Advisory Council of the Institute of Historical Research (IHR)\, and the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). \n\nA dual citizen of the UK and the USA\, Sir Rick was knighted in 2010 for services to higher education.

After the class\, your design will be scanned\, digitised and produced using a blade-cutting machine.
