Explore its preserved interiors\, authentic architectural details\, and co-living histories while visiting Tsao’s own residence and studio\, where he creates traditional papercuttings for Lunar New Year. The experience offers rare access to the building’s architectural features and community preservation stories. \nNick is an architect with over a decade of experience under international design firms such as Foster + Partners and Herzog & de Meuron. DESCRIPTION:Our former President and Hong Kong Club member\, Mr. Gordon Jones will be the host of our annual charity Christmas Cocktail Party. This is one of the most popular events in the Society’s calendar so come and enjoy socializing with other members\, friends\, and colleagues in the delightful Garden Lounge with its unique view of the Hong Kong Christmas lights. Drinks and canapes will be served\, including the ever-popular\, mouth-watering roast ham and mustard\, plus Swiss Raclette cheese with condiments. \nIn light of the recent tragedy in Tai Po\, we will begin the evening by observing a minute of silence (at 7:00 pm) in honour of those affected before the speeches and introductions. A donation box will also be available at the event\, with proceeds dedicated to the government’s relief fund for victims of the fire. \nAdhering to tradition\, any income generated from this event will be donated to a charity. This year’s chosen charity is Hong Kong Cancer Fund\, which is the city’s largest cancer support organisation\, providing free information and professional support to anyone living with or affected by cancer. Established in 1987\, Hong Kong Cancer Fund’s vision is to improve the quality of cancer support in Hong Kong. Children and guests of all ages are warmly invited to join in the fun\, whether cheering on the races or simply enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. \nThe rowing races will begin at 11:30am sharp\, featuring crews from Oxford\, Cambridge\, combined alumni\, and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. While some rowing or coxing experience is helpful\, crews will be of mixed ability and fitness\, making it accessible and enjoyable for all. Individual and crew entries are welcome—please register in advance (but no later than 15 October) so we can begin assembling teams. \nParticipants are encouraged to wear their varsity colours and embrace the friendly rivalry. The fireside chat will be moderated by the President of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong\, Dr. Blanc Wan\, and is hosted by a member of the HK Club\, Mr. Arun Nigum. The fireside chat will focus on her career in the Administrative Service and Legislative Council\, as well as the opportunities and risks she sees for Hong Kong. There will be an interactive Q&A at the end. Chatham House rules will be applied. \nMrs Ip is currently a Legislative Council Member\, Chairperson of the New People’s Party\, the Savantas Policy Institute and the Maritime Silk Road Society as well as Court Member of the University of Hong Kong. Mrs Ip joined the Administrative Service of the Hong Kong civil service in September 1975 and worked in a wide range of policy areas\, including home affairs\, security\, trade and industry. She rose through the ranks to Director of Bureau in May 2000. She served as Secretary for Security from August 1998 to July 2003. She has been a Legislative Council Member returned by geographical constituency through direct elections since 2008. In October 2012 and July 2017\, Mrs Ip was appointed Non-Official Member of the Executive Council. Established in 1963\, Heep Hong Society is a leading education and rehabilitation organisation offering professional assessment\, guidance\, training and family support services. DESCRIPTION:LANTAU HIKING TRIP & TEA WITH THE BUNKERS \nOnce again the Bunkers have very kindly invited us to their home for tea after a walk. This year we shall be tackling a pleasant coastal route to reach their home. The walk will start at 1:00pm from the Pui O Village Peter Stuckey wil be leading the walk and be meeting at 11:30am at the Central Ferry Pier No. 6. He will give us brief talks on the highligts of our trip\, particularly about the feral cattle resident at Pui O\, the tin Hau temple at Pui O beach and the coastal scenery along the way. \nThe walk is around 8 kms on concrete paths and fairly well made tracks\, mostly contoured. It involves some inclines but no steep climbs. However\, it will take about 3 hours of walking and once started there are no easy exit options except to complete the walk. Suitable clothing and shoes are essential. Be sure to bring ample water. \nThe Bunkers have kindly invited us for one of Sally Bunker’s excellent cream teas at their delightful home in Mui Wo after the hike. The rowing races will commence at 11:30am sharp with crews representing Oxford\, Cambridge\, combined alumni and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. \nSome experience of rowing and/or coxing is required but crews will be of mixed ability and fitness. Individual or crew entries are welcome – please register your interest in advance so we can start assembling crews before the day. Since 2014\, Sir Rick has been the Rector of Exeter College\, Oxford. A graduate of Brown University\, Sir Rick was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship\, which led him to complete a second undergraduate degree at Merton College\, Oxford. He further pursued his academic journey as a research student at Nuffield College\, a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College\, and a lecturer at Balliol College. His doctoral research focused on Victorian social history. Sir Rick was for twenty-one years an academic at the University of Glasgow\, where he became dean of social sciences\, vice-principal and professor of social history. He also held the latter title at Greenwich and King’s and is now professor emeritus of social history at King’s.  \n\nKnown for his commitment to innovative teaching methods\, Sir Rick has been actively involved in promoting computer-based teaching in history and other disciplines. His research interests have centered on modern British elites\, particularly the middle-class leaders of industrial towns and cities.\nIn recognition of his contributions to the field\, Sir Rick has been elected as the President of the Economic History Society\, an organization dedicated to promoting research and teaching in economic and social history since 1926. He currently serves on the board of the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and is the head of the Museum of London Academic Panel. Previously\, he held board positions at the University of Oxford\, the Royal Academy of Music\, the Museum of London\, Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)\, the US/UK Fulbright Commission\, the Advisory Council of the Institute of Historical Research (IHR)\, and the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). \n\nA dual citizen of the UK and the USA\, Sir Rick was knighted in 2010 for services to higher education.
