DESCRIPTION:Our former President and Hong Kong Club member\, Mr. Gordon Jones will be the host of our annual charity Christmas Cocktail Party. This is one of the most popular events in the Society’s calendar so come and enjoy socializing with other members\, friends\, and colleagues in the delightful Garden Lounge with its unique view of the Hong Kong Christmas lights. Drinks and canapes will be served\, including the ever-popular\, mouth-watering roast ham and mustard\, plus Swiss Raclette cheese with condiments. \nIn light of the recent tragedy in Tai Po\, we will begin the evening by observing a minute of silence (at 7:00 pm) in honour of those affected before the speeches and introductions. A donation box will also be available at the event\, with proceeds dedicated to the government’s relief fund for victims of the fire. \nAdhering to tradition\, any income generated from this event will be donated to a charity. This year’s chosen charity is Hong Kong Cancer Fund\, which is the city’s largest cancer support organisation\, providing free information and professional support to anyone living with or affected by cancer. Established in 1987\, Hong Kong Cancer Fund’s vision is to improve the quality of cancer support in Hong Kong. Their work now encompasses psychosocial services\, public education\, cancer research\, home care\, peer support\, complementary therapies\, funding of hospital equipment and much more. \nWe are proud to also partner with Métier Minus\, a registered charity in Hong Kong\, to host a pop-up booth of post-loved luxury fashion at our Christmas Cocktail event. Children and guests of all ages are warmly invited to join in the fun\, whether cheering on the races or simply enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. \nThe rowing races will begin at 11:30am sharp\, featuring crews from Oxford\, Cambridge\, combined alumni\, and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. While some rowing or coxing experience is helpful\, crews will be of mixed ability and fitness\, making it accessible and enjoyable for all. Individual and crew entries are welcome—please register in advance (but no later than 15 October) so we can begin assembling teams. \nParticipants are encouraged to wear their varsity colours and embrace the friendly rivalry. Experienced rowers will have the chance to race in Hong Kong’s own “Boat Race” or in a Goldie/Isis boat\, but the overall tone of the day is light-hearted and inclusive\, with plenty of opportunities for a fun row and to represent your alma mater. \nAfter the races\, prizes will be awarded on the Clubhouse lawn\, followed by a family-friendly buffet lunch. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite Oxbridge members and guests to a fireside chat and cocktail with The Honourable Mrs. Regina IP LAU Suk-yee GBM\, GBS\, JP. The fireside chat will be moderated by the President of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong\, Dr. Blanc Wan\, and is hosted by a member of the HK Club\, Mr. Arun Nigum. The fireside chat will focus on her career in the Administrative Service and Legislative Council\, as well as the opportunities and risks she sees for Hong Kong. There will be an interactive Q&A at the end. Chatham House rules will be applied. \nMrs Ip is currently a Legislative Council Member\, Chairperson of the New People’s Party\, the Savantas Policy Institute and the Maritime Silk Road Society as well as Court Member of the University of Hong Kong. Mrs Ip joined the Administrative Service of the Hong Kong civil service in September 1975 and worked in a wide range of policy areas\, including home affairs\, security\, trade and industry. She rose through the ranks to Director of Bureau in May 2000. She served as Secretary for Security from August 1998 to July 2003. She has been a Legislative Council Member returned by geographical constituency through direct elections since 2008. In October 2012 and July 2017\, Mrs Ip was appointed Non-Official Member of the Executive Council.
